Custom splinting
Custom splinting in hand therapy involves fabricating a personalized orthosis to support healing, protect injured structures, improve alignment, and restore function of the hand, wrist, or elbow. Each splint is designed specifically for the patient’s diagnosis, anatomy, and daily demands.
Splints may be used to:
Protect tissues after surgery or injury
Reduce pain and inflammation
Improve joint positioning and motion
Prevent or correct deformity
Support return to work, sport, or music
Ergonomic / Activity Analysis
Ergonomic and activity analysis in hand therapy evaluates how a person uses their hands and upper extremities during work, sport, music, and daily activities to identify movements or postures that contribute to pain, strain, or injury.
The therapist analyzes tasks such as typing, lifting, gripping, instrument use, or tool handling and provides:
Targeted ergonomic adjustments
Task modification and joint protection strategies
Postural and movement education
Guided therapeutic exercise
Guided therapeutic exercise in hand therapy is a structured, therapist-directed program designed to restore strength, mobility, coordination, and endurance of the hand, wrist, and upper extremity after injury or surgery.
Exercises are customized and progressed to:
Improve range of motion and strength
Restore fine motor control and dexterity
Support safe return to work, sport, and daily activities
